（中外新闻社小记者 戚阳芮 郭宇晨 何易航 吴佳羲 郁雅情）格林纳达岛位于东加勒比海向风群岛最南端，1974年2月格林纳达正式宣布独立，为英联邦成员国。格林纳达岛拥有加勒比地区特有的热带海岛风光，盛产肉豆蔻等香料和热带水果，被称为“香料岛”。旅游业也是其重要经济来源。格林纳达圣乔治坐落在格林纳达岛西南海滨，是全国最大的城市和商业中心。对于小记者来说，格林纳达是一个比较陌生、且遥远的国家，但格林纳达有自己的国际机场，有自己的货币（东加勒比元），用的是英语，主流信仰是基督教。8月8日下午，“见证友谊” --中外新闻社 2025 暑假小记者走进格林纳达驻华大使馆，采访格林纳达驻华大使马岩阁下。
The island of Grenada lies at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Grenada formally declared its independence in February 1974 and is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. With the distinctive tropical island scenery characteristic of the Caribbean region, Grenada is renowned for its abundant production of spices like nutmeg and tropical fruits, known as the “Spice Island.” Tourism also serves as a significant economic pillar. Saint George's, situated on the island's southwestern coast, is Grenada's largest city and commercial hub. For junior journalists, Grenada may seem unfamiliar and distant, yet it possesses its own international airport, currency (the Eastern Caribbean Dollar), English as its official language, and Christianity as its predominant faith. On the afternoon of August 8th, “Witness Friendship” 2025 Summer Home and Abroad News Press Junior Journalists had an exclusive interview with Ambassador of Grenada to China, H.E. Mr. Ian J. Marshall.

Ambassador Ian J. Marshall is a remarkably young diplomat. During the meeting, he presented the commemorative philatelic items issued to mark the 20th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Grenada, along with two highly significant diplomatic covers, to President Wei Yan. He also said: “This is an exceptionally important delegation of junior journalists he had received, and he cherishes this opportunity for dialogue with the younger generation.”

A junior journalist asked: “Hello, Ambassador! As a young and dynamic diplomat, you presented your credentials to Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People on January 31, 2024, becoming Grenada's Ambassador to China. How do you think young people from both countries can carry forward the valuable friendship between Grenada and China? How can the youth of both countries contribute their wisdom and strength to the healthy development of Grenada-China relations? Thank you!”
马岩大使说，这是一个很好的问题!我认为：中国同格林纳达友好关系来之不易，两国青少年要好好的传承下去，首先可以选择在网上用英文交流，研究对方国家正在发生的大事件，然后多了解两国的历史，格林纳达有孔子学院，格林纳达的孩子们可以学习中文，中国孩子学习英文，他们都可以为中格关系健康发展贡献自己的智慧和力量。
Ambassador Ian J. Marshall said: “That's an excellent question! I believe the friendly relations between China and Grenada were hard-won, and it is up to the youth of both nations to carry this legacy forward. They can start by communicating in English online, researching major events unfolding in each other's countries, and deepening their understanding of our shared history. With the Confucius Institute in Grenada, Grenadian children can learn Chinese, while Chinese children study English. Both can contribute their wisdom and strength to the healthy development of China-Grenada relations.”
“你好大使阁下!格林纳达总理米切尔今年1月13日访华，高度赞赏中方秉持相互尊重、平等相待原则发展国与国的关系，引领全球南方发展。一个中国原则符合世界潮流，格方将继续坚定恪守。你认为：双方如何继续加强旅游、文化、教育、媒体等领域交流合作？”小记者问。
“Hello, Ambassador! During his visit to China on January 13 this year, Prime Minister Mitchell of Grenada highly commended China's approach to developing state-to-state relations based on mutual respect and equality, and its leadership in advancing the development of the Global South. The One-China principle aligns with the global trend, and Grenada will continue to uphold it firmly. How do you think both sides can continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in tourism, culture, education, media, and other fields?" asked another junior journalist.
马岩大使表示，中格复交20年来，始终相互尊重、平等相待，保持高层密切交往，务实合作不断拓展，为两国人民带来了实实在在的福祉。2025年1月13日，中国国务院总理李强在北京同格林纳达总理米切尔举行会谈。会谈后，两国总理共同见证签署共建“一带一路”、经济、文化、贸易、教育、旅游、新闻、气候变化等领域多项双边合作文件。格林纳达人重视教育，“教育”合作是重要部分。
Ambassador Ian J. Marshall stated that over the past 20 years since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Grenada, the two countries have consistently respected each other and treated each other as equals. They have maintained close high-level exchanges and continuously expanded practical cooperation, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both nations. On January 13, 2025, Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with Grenadian Prime Minister Mitchell in Beijing. Following the talks, the two prime ministers witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents covering areas such as jointly building the Belt and Road, economy, culture, trade, education, tourism, media, and climate change. Education is highly valued by Grenadians, making educational cooperation a crucial component of this partnership.

Hello Ambassador, Grenada is a beautiful “island nation of three islands,” located at the southernmost tip of the Windward Islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is known as the “Spice Island.” Grande Anse Beach has been rated as the best shallow water area in the Caribbean region with exceptional natural conditions. My parents and I would love to visit Grenada. Could you please share some insights about tourism in Grenada? Thank you!
马岩大使回答：格林纳达是一个美丽的岛国，旅游业是支柱产业，那里有优雅温馨的乡村房子、柔软的沙滩、宁静的红树林、蓝色的大海、浮潜的珊瑚暗礁，曾被《国家地理》评选为全球十大旅行地之一。
Ambassador Ian J. Marshall answered: Grenada is a beautiful island nation where tourism serves as a pillar industry. It features elegant and cozy country homes, soft sandy beaches, tranquil mangrove forests, azure seas, and snorkeling coral reefs. It was once selected by National Geographic as one of the world's top ten travel destinations.
马岩大使还饶有兴趣的和小记者们交流未来双方可以通过开设学术课程、举办文化展览、开展讲座等形式加强文化交流。马岩大使认为，格中关系的未来在很大程度上取决于青年一代，期望未来两国青年能继续加强文化外交和人文交流，促进两国的经济合作，共同推动 “一带一路” 倡议在格林纳达与中国之间结出更加丰硕的成果。
Ambassador Ian J. Marshall also engaged in an enthusiastic exchange with the junior journalists about future avenues for strengthening cultural ties, such as offering academic courses, hosting cultural exhibitions, and organizing lectures. He believes that the future of Grenada-China relations largely rests on the younger generations. He also expressed hope that young people from both countries will continue to enhance cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges, promote economic cooperation, and jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve even more fruitful outcomes between Grenada and China.

The interview concluded successfully in a harmonious and friendly atmosphere with significant outcomes. It not only deepened mutual understanding between Grenada and the students, but also laid a solid foundation for both sides to continuously expand cooperation across multiple fields and further strengthen their friendly relations.

After the interviews, the junior journalists presented small gifts from their hometowns to Ambassador Ian J. Marshall. In return, the Ambassador gifted commemorative souvenirs to all junior journalists. The embassy conference room soon filled with well-wishes and laughter. As everyone gathered for a group photo, they cheered together: “Long live China-Grenada friendship!”
