The Republic of Ghana is located in West Africa. Known for its abundant gold deposits, it was called the “Gold Coast” before independence. Ghana is also known as the “Home of Cocoa,” with one in every six chocolate bars worldwide reportedly using cocoa sourced from Ghana. On the morning of February 6th, Home and Abroad News Press junior journalists waved the national flags of China and Ghana as they entered the Ghanaian Embassy in China and had an exclusive interview with the new Ghana's Ambassador to China H.E. Mr. Kojo Bonsu.

At 11:3 a.m., Ambassador Kojo Bonsu entered the embassy conference hall for the junior journalists. He shook hands with each student before delivering a welcome address. He said: “Today is the first time I have hosted so many young Chinese journalists at our embassy. I am delighted and extend a warm welcome to your visit. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in China...”
科乔·邦苏大使说, 今年是庆祝加纳独立69周年, 我们举办了多场活动, 涵盖艺术展览、时装秀、音乐表演等文化盛事, 以及绿色能源、制造业等领域的合作机遇, 以加深中加两国间的理解和合作, 促进文化交流与经贸增长。
Ambassador Kojo Bonsu noted that this year marks the 69th anniversary of Ghana's independence. To celebrate this important occasion, Ghana has organized a series of events including cultural festivities, art exhibitions, fashion shows, and musical performances, alongside opportunities for cooperation in fields like green energy and manufacturing. These initiatives aim to deepen mutual understanding and collaboration between China and Ghana, while fostering cultural exchange and economic growth.
科乔·邦苏大使说, 加纳的地理位置相当独特, 西邻科特迪瓦, 北接布基纳法索, 东毗多哥, 南濒大西洋, 海岸线长约562公里。加纳还是非洲音乐和舞蹈的重要中心之一。当地人民热衷于鼓乐和舞蹈表演, 音乐和舞蹈在加纳社会中扮演着重要角色。此外, 加纳的手工艺品也以其独特的设计和工艺而闻名于世, 如精美的木雕、黄金首饰和纺织品等。
Ambassador Kojo Bonsu stated that Ghana's geographical location is quite unique, bordered by Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, with a coastline stretching approximately 562 kilometers. Ghana is also one of Africa's major centers for music and dance. The local population is passionate about drumming and dance performances, with music and dance playing vital roles in Ghanaian society. Furthermore, Ghanaian handicrafts are renowned worldwide for their distinctive designs and craftsmanship, including exquisite wood carvings, gold jewelry, and textiles.

In the interview session, a junior journalist asked: “Hello, Ambassador! As a senior diplomat, you formally become the Ambassador of Ghana to China upon presenting your credentials to President Xi Jinping on January 16, 2026. In your views, how can young people from China and Ghana contribute their wisdom and strength to fostering friendly relations between our two nations? Thank you!”
科乔·邦苏大使说, 这是一个非常好的问题。加纳共和国同中华人民共和国与于1960年7月5日建交。2024年9月, 两国建立战略伙伴关系。我认为, 加中两国青少年传承两国的宝贵友谊应该从互相了解对方的历史、文化开始, 加纳学生也有在中国留学, 两国学生应该多多交流, 互相关注对方国的重要事件, 共同推动加纳同中国友好关系的发展。
Ambassador Kojo Bonsu answered: “This is an excellent question. The Republic of Ghana established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China on July 5, 1960. In September 2024, the two countries established a strategic partnership. I believe that for the youth of Ghana and China to carry forward the precious friendship between our nations, they should begin by learning about each other's history and culture. Ghanaian students also study in China, and students from both countries should engage in more exchanges, pay attention to significant events in each other's countries, and jointly promote the development of friendly relations between Ghana and China.”

Another junior journalist asked: “Dear Ambassador! Ghana is a country located in West Africa, blessed with abundant natural resources and cultural heritage. It has rich tourism resources. Could you please share some insights about Ghana's culture and tourism? If we were to choose Ghana as a travel destination, what season would you recommend for visiting? Thank you!”

Ambassador Kojo Bonsu noted that traveling to Ghana is a delight for nature enthusiasts. The sunny equatorial climate and fertile, moist soil nurture a vibrant array of wildlife from elephants to monkeys, sea turtles to crocodiles, and hundreds upon hundreds of vividly colored birds and butterflies. Sixteen national parks and numerous lesser-known reserves cover over 5% of the country's territory. Among the most popular destinations are Moers National Park on the northern savannah and the forested Kakun National Park near the coast. When is the best time to visit? The ideal season spans from April to October.

“Hello, Ambassador! The Confucius Institute has become a vital platform for Chinese language education and cultural exchange between Ghana and China. Given that China is a major global economic power and an important development partner for Ghana, formally integrating Chinese language learning into Ghana's basic education system is of paramount importance. May I ask: Once children receive proper language training and become proficient in Chinese, in which areas will Ghana benefit? Thank you!” anther junior journalist asked.

Ambassador Kojo Bonsu said that the Confucius Institute at Cape Coast University, located in the historic city of Cape Coast in Ghana's Central Region and bordering the Atlantic Ocean, is Ghana's second Confucius Institute. This institute has become a vital platform for Chinese language education and cultural exchange between Ghana and China. The institute prioritizes not only Chinese language training and instruction but also cultivating students' interest in Chinese culture. It has nurtured a cohort of outstanding Chinese language talents locally, many of whom are now active in Sino-Ghanaian economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and other fields after graduation.

The junior journalists also exchanged views with the ambassador on topics concerning travel and study in Ghana. Through interviewing the Ghanaian Ambassador to China, the junior journalists not only gained a deeper understanding of Ghana but also experienced the ambassador's diplomatic charm and infectious warmth. At the conclusion of the interview, each junior journalist presented the ambassador with a gift of their own calligraphy or painting, wishing him happiness in his work and life in China.
