On March 21, 2026, the Embassy of Namibia in China hosted a reception at the International Banquet Hall of the Kunlun Hotel in Beijing to celebrate the 36th anniversary of Namibia’s independence. President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press, and Executive Director Liu Dengchen attended the reception with ambassadors from various countries. Distinguished guests, including Ambassador of Namibia to China H.E. Tonata Itenge-Emvula, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Miao Deyu, and Ambassador of Cameroon and Head of the African Diplomatic Corps in China H.E. Martin Mpana gathered together to celebrate this significant occasion.

At 7:00 p.m., the national anthems of the Republic of Namibia and the People’s Republic of China were played at the venue, followed by a welcome address by Ambassador of Namibia to China H.E. Tonata Itenge-Emvula.
埃姆武拉大使在致辞中对各位嘉宾的到来表示诚挚感谢, 她满怀自豪地回顾了纳米比亚独立36年来的发展历程, 并重申纳中两国牢不可破的深厚友谊。她表示, 纳中关系植根于共同追求解放与独立的历史, 中国在纳米比亚反抗外来统治和种族隔离的斗争中给予了坚定支持, 纳米比亚将始终奉行一个中国政策。同时, 她介绍了纳米比亚政府确立的七大发展优先领域, 期待借鉴中国发展经验, 深化两国各领域合作。
In her remarks, Ambassador Emwula expressed her sincere gratitude to all the guests for their attendance. She proudly reviewed Namibia’s development over the 36 years since independence and reaffirmed the unbreakable and deep friendship between Namibia and China. She noted that Namibia-China relations are rooted in a shared history of striving for liberation and independence. China provided steadfast support during Namibia’s struggle against foreign rule and apartheid, and Namibia will always adhere to the One-China policy. At the same time, she outlined the seven key development priorities established by the Namibian government and expressed hope to draw on China’s development experience to deepen cooperation between the two countries across all sectors.
埃姆武拉大使表示: 衷心感谢各位嘉宾拨冗出席今晚盛典, 令我们倍感荣幸。就我而言, 今天站在这里, 参与纳米比亚独立36周年纪念活动, 我内心充满自豪与深切感激。这是一个具有重要历史意义的时刻, 它既是对纳米比亚及其人民非凡历程的致敬与庆祝, 也是向中国人民致以最诚挚的敬意！祝贺在中华人民共和国国家主席习近平的英明领导下, 中国克服重重挑战、实现巨大进步。
Ambassador Emwula said: “We are deeply honored that you have taken the time to attend tonight’s grand ceremony. For me personally, standing here today to participate in the 36th anniversary of Namibia’s independence fills my heart with pride and profound gratitude. This is a moment of great historical significance—it is both a tribute to and a celebration of the extraordinary journey of Namibia and its people, as well as an expression of our deepest respect to the Chinese people!” I congratulate China on the tremendous progress it has achieved in overcoming numerous challenges under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.

Ambassador Emwula noted: While cherishing the historical ties between our two countries, we also attach great importance to our increasingly vibrant economic cooperation. The scale of trade between our two nations has expanded significantly, and exchanges of goods, services, and investment are growing ever closer. Today, China has become Namibia’s largest source of investment, with cooperation in sectors such as mining being particularly prominent. Working hand in hand, our two countries are jointly promoting sustainable development and driving economic growth, thereby continuously enhancing our respective positions in the global economic landscape. Our partnership must not only serve the fundamental interests of our two peoples but also benefit the international community. We must demonstrate to the world that even against the backdrop of turbulent times, the spirit of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect can still flourish. The shared values we uphold should serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come, ensuring that the spirit of cooperation is deeply rooted in the soil of our bilateral relations.
中华人民共和国外交部副部长苗得雨致辞, 他热烈祝贺纳米比亚独立36周年, 强调中纳传统革命友谊, 高度赞赏纳米比亚在涉及中国核心利益问题上的支持。他表示, 中纳建交以来, 在经济、教育、基础设施建设等领域合作成果显著, 中国将继续支持纳米比亚独立自主发展, 愿与纳米比亚携手应对全球挑战, 推进多边主义和人类命运共同体建设。
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Miao Deyu delivered a speech in which he extended warm congratulations on the 36th anniversary of Namibia’s independence, emphasized the traditional revolutionary friendship between China and Namibia, and highly commended Namibia’s support on issues concerning China’s core interests. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Namibia, the two countries have achieved remarkable results in cooperation across various fields, including the economy, education, and infrastructure development. China will continue to support Namibia’s independent and self-reliant development and is willing to work hand in hand with Namibia to address global challenges, promote multilateralism, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
致辞结束后, 埃姆武拉大使与苗得雨副部长同在场各国大使举杯同庆, 共切纳米比亚生日蛋糕。
Following the speech, Ambassador Emwula and Vice Minister Miao Deyu raised their glasses in celebration with ambassadors from various countries present and jointly cut the birthday cake for Namibia.

During the event, guests enjoyed a Namibian cultural performance show and engaged in exchanges in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A short film showcasing 14 multicultural dances from Namibia was screened, vividly demonstrating the country’s rich ethnic cultural charm.
