On the evening of September 2, 2026, the Embassy of Vietnam in China hosted a grand reception in Beijing to celebrate the 81st National Day Anniversary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Chinese attendees included Mr. Cai Wei, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Huang Junhua, Vice Chairperson of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress; Major General Liu Bo of the Ministry of National Defense; the former Chinese ambassadors and consuls general to Vietnam; as well as representatives from relevant Chinese ministries and commissions, local governments, Vietnamese friends, veteran soldiers who participated in aid efforts during Vietnam’s war of resistance, enterprises, universities, research institutions, hospitals, and Chinese media organizations. President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press attended the reception at the invitation of Ambassador of Vietnam to China, His Excellency Pham Thanh Binh, with many ambassadors from various countries.

At 7:00 p.m., the national anthems of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the People’s Republic of China were played at the venue, and His Excellency Pham Thanh Binh, Ambassador of Vietnam to China, delivered a speech. He said that after more than 80 years of nation-building and national defense and particularly over the past 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy, Vietnam has achieved tremendous and comprehensive accomplishments. It has become a dynamic economy deeply integrated into the international community, with its international standing and reputation continuously rising, and it actively, proactively, and responsibly contributes to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. Vietnam unwaveringly pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, and cooperation; promotes the multilateralization and diversification of international relations; and actively and proactively integrates into the international community. It is a friend, a trustworthy partner, and a responsible member of the international community.

The year 2026 holds special significance for Vietnam. The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam was a resounding success, ushering in a new era of development for the Vietnamese nation and setting the goal of striving to make Vietnam a developing country with modern industry and a relatively high average income by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045. To achieve this goal, Vietnam is accelerating the transformation of its economic growth model, improving its development system, building a lean, efficient, and effective government apparatus, vigorously promoting scientific and technological development, innovation, and digital transformation, accelerating the cultivation of high-quality talent, and developing the private sector and strategic infrastructure systems.

Regarding foreign relations, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh stated that Vietnam adheres to a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development. It upholds the multilateralization and diversification of diplomatic relations, actively, positively, comprehensively, deeply, and effectively integrates into the international community, and is committed to being a friend, a trustworthy partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community. Within Vietnam’s overall foreign policy, consolidating and developing traditional friendly relations and the comprehensive strategic partnership with China is an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority. At the same time, Vietnam has always cherished the valuable support and assistance provided by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese government, and the Chinese people in Vietnam’s struggle for national independence as well as in its national construction and development endeavors.

Building on the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, relations between the two parties and the two nations continue to maintain a positive, comprehensive, and pragmatic momentum of development. Since early 2026, high-level and multi-tiered exchanges between the two countries have been very active, most notably the historic state visit to China in April 2026 by Tô Lâm, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam. The top leaders of the two parties and two countries engaged in in-depth strategic exchanges, reached broad consensus on many important issues, further elevated the status of Vietnam-China relations, and continued to chart the course for the development of these relations in the new era.

In a friendly atmosphere, the guests toured the exhibition area featuring distinctive Vietnamese brand products and sampled Vietnamese rice noodles and other local delicacies with rich Vietnamese flavors. Vietnamese artists, dressed in festive attire, presented a uniquely Vietnamese song and dance performance. Their graceful dance moves and moving vocals earned waves of applause from the audience, with many in the audience swaying to the music, creating a lively festive atmosphere.
