On the afternoon of August 28, 2026, President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press led a business delegation, including Executive Director Mr. Liu Dengchen, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mr. Hu Shumeng, Executive Director of the International Projects Department Mr. Ma Ding and Chief Translator Ms. Zheng Rong, to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in China at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Sinisa Berjan, Ambassador of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina to China, to discuss comprehensive cooperation between the Home and Abroad News Press investment delegation and the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina on large-scale investment and financing projects. Additionally, President Wei Yan presented Ambassador Sinisa Berjan with a certificate of appointment to the Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club.

Ambassador Sinisa Berjan warmly welcomed President Wei Yan and her delegation. Ambassador Sinisa Berjan served as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to Japan from 2019 to 2023. On January 30, 2024, he presented his credentials to President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, assuming his post as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to China. In today’s global environment, marked by uncertainty and turmoil, Ambassador Berjan deeply feels his mission and responsibility.

During the meeting, President Wei Yan first congratulated Ambassador Berjan on becoming a new member of the Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club. Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club is a large family of ambassadors from various countries accredited to China. Guided by the United Nations Charter to uphold world peace and support the Millennium Development Goals, the Home and Abroad News Press assists embassies of all countries in China in conducting friendly exchanges and dialogue in the fields of politics, economy, culture, and public diplomacy. It also looks forward to the Home and Abroad News Press Ambassadors Club conveying the friendship of the Chinese people to friendly nations.

During the meeting, Ambassador Berjan outlined Bosnia and Herzegovina’s investment environment, noting that, as a European country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, though not yet a member of the EU, has initiated the application process and benefits from preferential trade arrangements with the EU as well as free trade agreements with multiple countries, allowing its goods to enter markets such as Central and Eastern Europe, the EU, Turkey, and Iran. He also noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the heart of Central and Eastern Europe and has relatively low labor costs, offering investment opportunities in labor-intensive industries such as textiles, apparel, and footwear, as well as in agriculture, automotive, construction, energy, and tourism.
贝尔扬大使还介绍了2026年9月2日即将在波黑首都萨拉热窝举行的“波黑-中国企业高级别投资与项目合作论坛”，萨沃米尼奇总理阁下将出席并致欢迎辞。
Ambassador Berjan also introduced the “Bosnia and Herzegovina–China High-Level Forum on Investment and Project Cooperation,” scheduled to take place on September 2, 2026 in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His Excellency Prime Minister Savo Minić will attend the event and deliver a welcome address.

Ambassador Berjan said that China and Bosnia and Herzegovina enjoy excellent bilateral relations and a long-standing friendship. As a participant in the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Central and Eastern European Countries (China-CEEC) cooperation mechanism, Bosnia and Herzegovina has always been committed to strengthening practical cooperation with China in areas such as investment, trade, industry, infrastructure, innovation, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. This cooperation forum will primarily focus on core sectors such as energy and green industries, infrastructure and connectivity, manufacturing and industrial cooperation, ICT-driven digital transformation, agriculture and food processing, wood processing and the furniture industry, minerals and natural resources, as well as cultural tourism and wellness, featuring project presentations, roadshows, and business negotiations.

Executive Director of the International Projects Mr. Ma Ding also introduced to Ambassador Berjan the multi-faceted, round-the-clock, and customized comprehensive solutions offered by Shanghai Import and Export Co., Ltd., as well as the successful implementation of cooperative projects such as the Northern China International Seni Wind Power Project in Croatia and the Komanj Mountain Photovoltaic Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These projects have effectively addressed local power supply shortages, created jobs, and cultivated local industrial talent, fully demonstrating the robust capabilities of China’s clean energy solutions. They have also charted a new path of mutually beneficial, localized, and collaborative development for domestic new energy enterprises seeking to expand into overseas markets.

Ambassador Berjan noted that since assuming his post as Ambassador to China, he has come to realize even more deeply that long-term planning and policy continuity are crucial to China’s development.

President Wei Yan also mentioned her hope to establish a “Home and Abroad News Press branch office in Bosnia and Herzegovina”. Ambassador Berjan expressed his full support for the Home and Abroad News Press’ initiative and indicated that he could facilitate the necessary arrangements in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador Berjan noted that the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina considers the investment issues discussed here to be of great significance, and that they welcome opportunities for exchange and interaction with global partners. The gathering here represents diverse cultures and different stages of economic and social development, providing an opportunity to share China’s approaches, explore new avenues for trade and investment, and most importantly exchange views on regional and global development. This also presents a valuable opportunity for Bosnian companies to enter the broader Chinese market and introduce high-quality Bosnian products to Chinese consumers.

Wei Yan stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s current investment environment, industrial policies, and areas of cooperation align with China’s investment strategies and functional positioning, which aim to promote bilateral trade and expand market access.

During the conversation, we learned that in recent years, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s influence has gradually deepened. From energy cooperation to the construction of the Vlasenica–Milic gas pipeline, every initiative demonstrates the country’s strong influence, particularly in achieving sustainable economic development through these collaborative efforts.
贝尔扬大使表示，对世界而言，中国是重要的稳定力量。中国仍然是全球经济增长最大的贡献者之一，在充满不确定性的时期，这种稳定性极其珍贵。对波黑而言，中国的持续发展非常重要。当中国发展得好时，机遇之门也随之打开。波黑非常希望以互利共赢的精神，共同走进这这扇机遇之门。
Ambassador Berjan stated that China is an important stabilizing force for the world. China remains one of the largest contributors to global economic growth, and such stability is extremely valuable during times of uncertainty. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, China’s continued development is of great importance. When China prospers, doors of opportunity open. Bosnia and Herzegovina is eager to walk through these doors of opportunity together in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Berjan concluded by noting that cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and China under the Belt and Road Initiative has been highly successful. Bosnia and Herzegovina is also a member of the China–Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation Mechanism. Bosnia and Herzegovina places great importance on cooperation related to the Belt and Road Initiative and is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this significant global initiative, which has brought numerous benefits to countries around the world and enabled the implementation of many large-scale projects.
