On May 29, Director-General of the Department of European and Eurasian Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Cheng Yikun, Deputy Minister of Culture of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Mirtskhulava as well as representatives from diplomatic missions to China and various sectors of Chinese and Georgian society attended the Georgia Independence Day reception in Beijing. At the invitation of Ambassador of Georgia to China H.E. Mr. Paata Kalandadze, President Wei Yan of Home and Abroad News Press, and Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mr. Hu Shumeng attended the reception with many diplomats and Chinese and foreign guests.
晚上19:00, 会场上奏响格鲁吉亚共和国国歌和中华人民共和国国歌,屏幕上播放格鲁吉亚宣传片, 之后格鲁吉亚驻华大使巴阿达·卡岚达泽阁下致欢迎辞。大使回顾格鲁吉亚独立以来的发展成就, 衷心感谢中国长期以来的支持和帮助。他特别强调, 中国的持续增长意味着更多机遇。格鲁吉亚从中看到了在贸易、投资和基础设施等方面合作的更大潜力。“贸易和投资仍然是两国关系的重点。”卡岚达泽强调格方坚定奉行一个中国原则, 高度重视发展对华战略伙伴关系。他表示, 今年是格中建交 34 周年, 两国关系正处于历史最佳时期, 2023 年建立的战略伙伴关系为双方合作注入了强劲动力。当前, 格中以自贸协定为基础, 经贸合作持续深化, 人文交流日益密切, 免签政策、直航航线、学历互认等举措让两国人民往来更加便捷。他同时介绍了格鲁吉亚在营商环境、经济开放度方面的亮眼表现, 以及参与 “一带一路” 合作的积极进展, 期待双方进一步拓展各领域合作。
At 7:00 p.m., the national anthems of the Republic of Georgia and the People’s Republic of China were played at the venue, and a promotional video about Georgia was shown on the screen. Following this, Ambassador of Georgia to China H.E. Mr. Paata Kalandadze, delivered a welcome address. The Ambassador reviewed Georgia’s development achievements since independence and expressed his sincere gratitude for China’s long-standing support and assistance. He particularly emphasized that China’s sustained growth signifies more opportunities. Georgia sees greater potential for cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and infrastructure. “Trade and investment remain the focal points of bilateral relations.” Kalandadze stated, underscoring Georgia’s firm adherence to the One-China Principle and its high regard for developing a strategic partnership with China. He noted that this year marks the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and China, and that bilateral relations are currently at the best point in history, with the strategic partnership established in 2023 injecting strong momentum into cooperation between the two sides. Currently, building on the Free Trade Agreement, Georgia and China are continuously deepening their economic and trade cooperation and strengthening people-to-people exchanges through visa-free travel, direct flights, and mutual recognition of academic qualifications and such, which made more convenience to the people exchanges between the two countries. He also highlighted Georgia’s impressive performance in terms of business environment and economic openness, as well as its positive progress in participating in “Belt and Road” cooperation, and expressed his hope that both sides would further expand cooperation across various fields.

China is one of Georgia’s major trading partners, and Georgia is working to increase exports of various products to the Chinese market, such as wine, mineral water, and agricultural products. Investment cooperation between the two countries has been developing steadily; in sectors such as energy, tourism, and manufacturing, China’s cumulative investment in Georgia has exceeded $700 million. Georgia warmly welcomes more Chinese companies to invest and establish businesses here, particularly in the logistics, manufacturing, and tourism sectors.

Director-General of the Department of European and Eurasian Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Cheng Yikun delivered a speech in which he extended festive greetings to Georgia. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations between China and Georgia have consistently maintained a healthy, stable, and positive momentum. China is willing to work with Georgia to continuously deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across all fields and jointly advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He expressed gratitude for Georgia’s long-standing support for China-Georgia relations. He highly valued Georgia’s unique position as a crossroads of Eastern and Western civilizations, commended its rapid economic growth and achievements in improving people’s livelihoods, and affirmed the steady development of the China-Georgia strategic partnership, the upgrade of the free trade agreement, the growth in bilateral trade, and the achievements in people-to-people exchanges. He expressed a willingness to deepen cooperation with Georgia across all fields, share development opportunities, and achieve common prosperity.

President Wei Yan had a friendly exchange with Ambassador Paata Kalandadze. He noted that China is one of Georgia’s closest partner countries and that bilateral relations are currently at their best level in history. Since establishing a strategic partnership in 2023, the two sides have made significant progress in trade, economic cooperation, and emerging areas of collaboration such as tourism. He specifically noted that the visa-free policy and the upcoming direct flights have made travel between the two nations more convenient, further bridging the gap between them. He believes that friendship between the peoples is the most solid foundation of bilateral relations, and that as cooperation in various fields continues to deepen, the prospects for the future development of Georgia-China relations will be even broader.
